Getting Started with NotebookLM

  • Tutorial
  • NotebookLM
  • AI

NotebookLM is Google’s AI-powered research and note-taking tool. Here’s how to get the most out of it.

Upload your sources

You can add PDFs, Google Docs, Google Slides, web links, YouTube videos, and audio files. NotebookLM will analyze them and connect themes across your sources.

  1. Open NotebookLM.
  2. Create a new notebook and give it a name.
  3. Click Add source and choose your file or paste a link.

Ask questions

Once your sources are in place, use the chat to ask anything about the content. NotebookLM answers using only your uploaded materials and shows citations so you can check the original text.

  • Ask for summaries of specific sections.
  • Request simple explanations of complex ideas.
  • Get suggested questions to explore the topic further.

Try Audio Overview

For longer documents, use Audio Overview to turn the content into a podcast-style conversation between two AI hosts. You can even join the conversation and ask follow-up questions.

NotebookLM supports 80+ languages for both written answers and audio overviews, so you can work in the language you prefer.
